Patterson J. Kincaid Fall 2010

Left to Right: Marlyn Tank and Katie Top
It's no surprise that I'm a big fan of the bohemian-esque women's line Patterson J. Kincaid (see here and here), and after looking through the fall 2010 look book I'm even more obsessed. Full of loose-fitting tanks, slouchy tops, flowy dresses and oversized oxfords, the collection is a dreamboat of pieces that are bound to become closet staples. Right now I have my eye on the Roxie dress in Tangerine and the Marlyn tank.

Sailing Celebration

The 30th birthday get-together for my beau was a smash hit on many levels. The stars aligned and the weather couldn't be more perfect for an afternoon of sailing and an outdoor dinner party. After racing around the day of, I managed to pull off a dinner for twenty close friends and family without a hitch—with some helpful friends of course—and once the food was dished out, I let the hair down as planned and painted the town red.

Let The Hair Down

This weekend I'm having a birthday celebration for my boyfriend who's turning the big 3-0. We'll be going on a sunset cruise and then having a big dinner afterwards with friends and family. I'll be cooking up a storm on Saturday, but once dinner is on the table I'll be letting loose in honor of the birthday boy himself. Since I'm the hostess I have a lot on my plate, but I've got lot's of ideas that I plan on sharing with all of you. Have a fabulous weekend full of sunshine, friends and don't forget to let your hair down a little.

Lindsey In Stripes

Gap shirt, Banana Republic hat, Alexander Wang Fanny Pack bag, Dolce & Gabbana beach bag, Mosley Tribes sunglasses
Some of my greatest fashion inspirations are my closest friends—Maren, Kristian, Lindsey and Erika to name a few. Since Lindsey and I live together, we have the benefit of sharing wardrobes and getting a final stamp of approval from each other before walking out the door. Over the weekend she bought this striped GAP shirt (a couple sizes too big so it works as a dress) and wore it for an afternoon of sailing.

Mikoh's Kalani Miller

I can't get enough of Mikoh Swimwear's debut collection of soft colored bikinis and one-pieces that have a subtle sexy undertone (see here). The sister-team, Kalani and Oleema Miller, grew up on the beaches of San Clemente and both share a love for the ocean, travel and, of course, bikinis. I recently caught up with Kalani, who lives part-time in Santa Barbara when she's not traveling with her pro-surfer beau, and got some summer advice and what she has planned for the months ahead.

What Mikoh suit have you been wearing lately?
I have really been into one-pieces lately. It's like an entire part of a wardrobe that one doesn't usually consider... why not broaden your swimsuit drawer with one-pieces? They are funky and sexy. Right now I have been wearing the Xavier suit in Coral. It functions as both a one-piece and a two-piece design—business in front and party in back... similar to a mullet, but WAY sexier.

Any advice for picking the right suit?
Definitely pick out something that you feel comfortable in. There is nothing like going to the beach or hanging pool side and not feeling comfortable and confident, so pick something that you feel sexy in.

Can't live without beauty product for summer?
I LOVE Moroccan hair oil. When traveling so much, it is definitely my go-to product for dry hair after long hours on the plane and plenty of sun, sand and salty water.

Any fun Summer travel plans?
I'm headed to South Africa in July, Tahiti in August and a couple of short trips between.

What can we expect for the next Mikoh collection?
Think bright colors!

Kalani's Summer PicksBold
1. Sheisheido Sunscreen SPF 55 - I have this sunscreen no matter where I am!
2. Iphone - Great for multi-tasking and taking pictures to email back home
3. Adesso Bracelets - I'm loving these bracelets. They are funky and fun to mix and match
4. Sass & Bide - After almost three months in Australia I am obsessed with Sass & Bide... basically any of their pieces are bound to make a statement and you just feel good wearing their mini works of art.

Beach Bag Essentials

I take beach days very seriously which usually results in a heavy bag full of magazines, a cooler, games, chairs and an umbrella—a lot of schlepping—but nothing makes me happier than a long sandy day. Here are some go-to products and must-haves that live in my bag during the summer months.

1. Caudalie Grape Water - My face gets dry from the salty ocean so a spritz of this keeps my skin dewey and it's incredibly refreshing on a hot day

2. Canvas Visor - I love a giant floppy number with tons of shade, but for beach days, I opt for a good visor like this one

3. Neutrogena 30 SPF Sunscreen - My skin is uber sensitive to most sunscreens but this is the only one that doesn't leave irritated bumps

4. Dior Lip Glow SPF 10 - Moisturizing and adds a hint of pink to my lips—a recent obsession

5. Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray - I spray this in my hair after going in the ocean, makes the perfect beach waves

6. Nook - I don't have one yet, but this would make the beach bag pounds lighter

7. Pottery Barn Beach Bag with MP3 Player - Tunes and a cold drink? Sold!

8. Tie Dye Hair Ties - They don't snag and come in bright, fun colors

Social Sun

Cover Up from Planet Blue
I look forward to the warm summer months for many reasons, but what I can't stand about this time of year is how fast it goes by. Weekends fill up with parties, weddings and vacations and before you know it, Fall is knocking on the door. This year I'm going to plan at least just one "nothing" weekend, so I can get around to all my favorite summertime shenanigans like walking to get ice cream, spending the whole day at the beach, finishing a book and making a refreshing (and fancy) cocktail—like this Rosemary Martini. What's on your list this summer?

Hot Spots On Martha's Vineyard

Aside from soaking up some R&R on our vacation we also did some shopping, and eating (of course) in Edgartown and Oaks Bluff. Now, it's no surprise that I have a weak spot for sugary treats (see here and here) and given that I was on vacation, I let the flood gates open. So between meals, sweet-tooth stops and shopping, here's my hit list of places not to pass up next time you're on Martha's Vineyard.

1. Sweet E's Cupcakes—I've had many cupcakes in my day, these were by far some of the best (especially the S'more flavor)
2. Alchemy—A great spot for dinner, food was incredible (a special thanks to Wiley for suggesting this one!)
3. The Newes—A fun place to grab a good brew at night
4. The Seafood Shanty—Right on the harbor with a fantastic view
5. Murdick's Fudge—Get the peanut butter chocolate flavor, you won't be disappointed
6. Florabella—Beach cover ups galore and an entire wall filled with perfumes that you can mix and match
7. Mad Martha's Ice Cream—I had 'Lotsa Dough' and the name doesn't lie
8. Nochi—Linens, antiques, cashmere, flowers... what more could a girl ask for?
9. Edgartown Books—Cuteness all-around here
10. Morning Glory Farm—Fresh organic produce from the island, homemade pies and maple treats
11. What's Up Martha—A great resource for finding hot spots on the island, I only wish I had known about it sooner than my last day!
My favorite scent from Florabella

Fudge from Murdick's

The MV Uniform

Riviera Club 'Miramar' Sweatshirt, Autumn Cashmere Wrap, Bensimon Tennis Shoes, American Eagle Boyfriend Jeans, Vintage Belt

My favorite time of day on Martha's Vineyard was late evening when the sun would start to set. Sometimes we would fill up our wine glasses and walk down to the boat house and watch the sky and clouds turn bright pink and orange. Around this time it would also start to cool off fast, so I would throw on my favorite Riviera Club sweatshirt because I literally lived in it during the evenings hours along with my boyfriend jeans—a cozy, casual uniform.

Beach Cruise

H&M Striped Top, Autumn Cashmere Wrap, Could I Have That Necklace, Gap Boyfriend Trousers Shorts, Ray Ban Aviators, Cartier Bracelet, Abejas Leather Flip Flops

One of my favorite things to do while on Martha's Vineyard was bike to the beach from our house in the afternoons. The perfect little trails and tall grass along the way was an East Coast dream. We'd stop and say hi to the horses and pick some daisies before filling up our pockets with shells from the beach. I lived in these boyfriend shorts—I finally found a pair from Gap after my hunt (see here)—that were perfect with sandals, but could easily be dressed up with a pair of heels.

Bocce Ball

Joie dress, Autumn Cashmere wrap, Cartier bracelet, Ray Ban aviators, vintage shell bracelet

Nothing like a good glass of wine and a round of Bocce ball to end a day of bike riding, sailing and swimming, which is how we spent the warmest day of our week on Martha's Vineyard. My strappy heels were a no go after this day due to my stellar sunscreen application—apparently your feet can burn just as easily—so barefoot Bocce was in order. If only we had the Chanel Bocce set (see here)... sigh.

Martha's Vineyard

Windswept on the ferry ride
Our week-long vacation on Martha's Vineyard was pure bliss consisting of beach walks, wining and dining, sun bathing, catching up on my reading, apple fritters every morning and cozying up by the fire at night. It had been a while since my last visit to the East Coast and I forgot how charming and idyllic everything is from the brick sidewalks to the shingle style homes. We had rain, sunshine, clouds (that looked like something out of a painting), thunder and firing sunsets while we were there, which was just what I was hoping for—a little of everything. All in all, it was the best R&R you could ask for.

Our view of the sunset every night
A cozy spot where I curled up next to the fire on a rainy day
I wanted to run and jump off this dock so bad—Dawson's Creek style
Everywhere I turned there was some form of sugar calling my name—cupcakes, fudge, ice cream... you name it I had some—needless to say I pushed maximum.
